Following a skin care routine is essential to maintain healthy skin.
If you have combination skin, you’ll know how frustrating it can be when it comes to your skincare routine. It’s just not as simple as for those with dry or oily skin – you need to treat each area of your face differently, whether it’s the greasy T-zone on your forehead, nose and chin or the flaky, dry patches on your cheeks.
Finding the right products for this balance is not easy and the last thing you want to do is make the problem worse on any of the areas. Choosing your products and developing a skincare regime that works may take some time, but it’s definitely time well spent – here are our tips for creating your most effective daily routine.
Cleansing – It goes without saying that washing the skin on a regular basis is extremely important, not only to wash away the day’s dirt and debris but to create a balance of PH levels in the skin.
Using a cleanser that encourages and maintains this balance is important and is one of the benefits of Solvaderm’s Dermpura, which is infused with natural botanicals and moisturizers, and designed to effectively lift dirt while protecting the skin’s protective barrier to reduce the risk of moisture loss. Because it has no harsh ingredients it can be used twice a day without leaving the skin irritated or over-dry.
Toning – This often-overlooked step is very important to those with combination skin. A good toner will consist of beneficial ingredients that remove any excess dirt, make-up and oil, but not contain overly-strong astringents that strip vital oils. Maxatone, the toner in the Solvaderm range of products, is specifically formulated to target the blackheads, whiteheads and clogged pores which are common to combination skin and shrink the pores without causing the skin to feel tight on the drier areas. The result is skin that remains well-hydrated, clear and blemish-free.
Moisturizing – The type of moisturizer you use when you have combination skin is vitally important and you may have to apply two different formulas separately if your skin is extremely dry in some parts and oily in others.
A heavier, richer formulation should be applied to areas of the face, such as the cheeks, if skin feels rough or flaky. Suvoderm's Night Time Rescue Repair Treatment is perfect as it uses highly hydrating ingredients such as Hyaluronic Acid, Grapeseed oil and Avocado oil to smooth dry skin and provide long-lasting moisturization.
On the areas of the skin that aren’t affected by dryness, it’s best to use a cream or lotion that’s lighter and non-greasy, and won’t make the problem of oily skin worse. For these areas, Solvaderm’s Dermaxol is ideal and, as well as being light and easily absorbed, it contains sunscreen so the skin is fully protected from harmful UV rays.
Exfoliating – While not part of the daily skincare routine, exfoliating the skin is beneficial for combination skin as it removes dead, dulling skin cells from the dry areas of the face while helping to unclog pores and minimize the appearance of blemishes on the greasier parts. Using Solvaderm’s Glowpeel product once a week encourages skin cell turnover with Alpha Hydroxy Acids that leave skin visibly bright, clear-toned and well-conditioned.
